Ciutadella & West is defined by its cave and canyon terrain. The majority of sites cluster around Cala en Forcat, ranging from shallow shore entries suited to beginners through to deeper boat dives for advanced divers, including the deep wreck of the Francisquita. Walls, artificial reefs and seagrass beds add variety. Common Octopus and Great Barracuda are encountered reliably across the area, alongside a rich mix of wrasse species, scorpionfish and nudibranchs.

Water temperatures rise through late spring into a warm summer peak, making the period from May through to October the most comfortable for diving without heavy exposure protection. The cooler months from winter into early spring bring lower temperatures that suit drysuits or thicker wetsuits. Cap d'Artrutx can produce drift conditions, so checking local conditions before diving exposed sites is worthwhile.

The area has a strong showing of Common Octopus and Great Barracuda at nearly every site. Wrasse are abundant, with Mediterranean Rainbow Wrasse, Peacock Wrasse and Turkish Wrasse all observed consistently. Keep an eye on the reef structure for Black Scorpionfish, Red Scorpionfish and the vivid Splendid Elysia nudibranch, as well as Cratena Slug on the cave walls.
A large proportion of the sites here are rated beginner level, including shore-entry options such as Es Clot de sa Cera, Cala Morell and Son Xoriguer. The artificial reef at Torre del Sumidero and the reef-wreck combination at Escull del Gobernador are also accessible to those early in their diving career. Intermediate and advanced divers have their own progression through the cave systems and the deep Francisquita wreck.
Several sites offer convenient shore entry, notably Punta del Contrabandista, Es Clot de sa Cera, Cala Morell and Son Xoriguer. The majority of sites, however, require boat access, and some of the more complex cave and canyon systems such as Los Corredores and Cueva Anklis are exclusively boat dives. A handful of sites including Cap d'Artrutx can be reached either way.
There are numerous dive operators serving the area, including Bluewater Menorca, Centro de Buceo, Tauchschule Poseidon Menorca, Seaquest, Menorca Buceo and Dive Center Cala Blanca, among others. Having multiple operators based locally means guided trips and equipment hire are readily available, which is particularly useful for visiting divers wanting to access the boat-only sites.
