Azerbaijan sits on the Caspian Sea, the world's largest inland body of water, and its single listed site reflects what draws divers to Baku: Soviet-era wreck and artificial reef diving near Nargin Island, reached by boat from the capital. The Caspian runs cold from autumn through spring, warming considerably over the summer months when boat trips are most practical. Beyond the coast, dive centres in Baku also organise inland trips to mountain lakes and the Mingachevir Reservoir, where sunken villages lie at depth, and to Gara Nuhur Lake, a high-altitude site used for altitude diving training.
