Terms of Use

Last updated 5 August 2026.

These terms govern your use of divewithfin.com and the Fin account features (“Fin”, “we”, “us”). By using Fin, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

What Fin is

Fin is an information directory for dive and snorkel sites worldwide, built from published sources, scientific datasets, and dives logged by our users. Fin is not a dive school, a certifying agency, a booking platform, or a travel operator. We do not vet, endorse, or guarantee any dive operator, guide, or business listed on the site.

Diving is dangerous: read this section

Diving and snorkelling carry inherent risks, including serious injury and death. Site conditions (visibility, current, marine life, hazards, access) change with weather, season, and time, and can differ from what is described on Fin. Nothing on Fin is a substitute for proper certification, a dive briefing from a qualified local operator, checking current conditions yourself, and diving within your training and experience level.

You use any information on Fin, including depth ranges, hazard notes, skill-level ratings, and marine life data, entirely at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, Fin is not liable for any injury, death, loss, or damage arising from your diving or snorkelling activity, whether or not related to information found on the site.

Data accuracy

We work to keep site data accurate: figures are sourced from published references and observational datasets where possible, and we would rather leave a field blank than guess. Even so, Fin is a large, partly crowd-sourced, partly AI-assisted encyclopedia, and errors, omissions, and outdated details can exist. Always verify conditions, access, and hazards locally before you dive, and use the Suggest Edit feature if you spot something wrong.

Accounts

You need an account to log dives, tag sightings, write reviews, or submit corrections. You're responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account. Give us accurate information when you sign up.

Your content

Dive logs, reviews, corrections, and anything else you submit remain yours. By submitting it, you give Fin a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display, and aggregate it (including anonymised or statistical form, such as “most commonly seen in July”) as part of the service. You're responsible for what you submit: don't post anything false, defamatory, infringing, or that you don't have the right to share.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these terms or that we reasonably believe are abusive, fraudulent, or harmful to other users or the integrity of the data.

Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users

Fin has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. Posting any of the following, anywhere a Fin account can write text (dive logs, reviews, sightings, site corrections, display names, handles, and profile bios), is a breach of these terms:

  • Hate speech, slurs, or content that attacks or demeans people on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
  • Harassment, bullying, stalking, or threats against any person.
  • Sexual or pornographic content, and anything that sexualises a minor.
  • Violent, graphic, or otherwise disturbing content, and encouragement of self-harm.
  • Impersonating a person or business, or posting another person's private information.
  • Spam, scams, and content posted to advertise rather than to inform.

Text you submit is screened automatically before it is saved, and content that trips that filter is rejected outright. Screening is not perfect, so the reporting and blocking tools below exist for anything that gets through.

Reporting and blocking

Every piece of content another account has posted carries a Report action, and every profile carries a Block action. Reporting hides that content from you immediately. Blocking is instant and works both ways: neither account can see the other's content, and any follow between you is removed. You can review and undo your blocks in Settings.

We review every report and act on it within 24 hours. Where a report is upheld we remove the content, and we eject the account that posted it. Ejected accounts lose access and their content is taken down. Reports also reach us at support@divewithfin.com.

Acceptable use

  • No scraping, bulk-downloading, or automated extraction of site data without our written permission.
  • No impersonating another person or business, or submitting fake reviews, corrections, or dive logs.
  • No attempting to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorised access to Fin's systems.
  • No using Fin for any unlawful purpose.

Third-party operators and links

Dive operator listings are informational. Any booking, course, or service you arrange with an operator found through Fin is a separate agreement between you and that operator; Fin is not a party to it and isn't responsible for the operator's conduct, pricing, safety practices, or service quality.

Intellectual property

The Fin name, logo, design, and site software are owned by us or our licensors. Site data compiled from public sources remains subject to those sources' own terms where applicable. You may not copy or redistribute Fin's compiled database without permission.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

Fin is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, Fin and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site.

Termination

You can stop using Fin, or delete your account, at any time. We suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, and we eject accounts that post objectionable content or behave abusively towards other users.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Fin after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Australia. You and Fin submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Australian courts for any dispute arising out of them. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
