Micronesia divides cleanly into four distinct dive destinations, each with its own character. Chuuk Lagoon is defined by an extraordinary concentration of wrecks, from the shallow superstructure of the Fujikawa Maru to the technical depths of the San Francisco Maru, with hulls now colonised as artificial reefs. Yap counters with current-driven reef and drift sites where Manta Ray encounters are a real draw, alongside walls, channels and pinnacles suited to a range of skill levels. Pohnpei offers reef and drift diving including the cleaning and feeding stations of Manta Road, while Kosrae rounds out the region with a smaller but focused site selection. Across all four areas, Grey Reef Shark and Whitetip Reef Shark are frequently observed, and the Mandarinfish is a consistent draw for divers willing to look closely.

Water temperature remains consistently warm throughout the year, nudging marginally higher from mid-year through to late autumn. The histogram of diver activity points strongly toward the cooler months of December through April as the most popular window, with January, February and December seeing peak interest and mid-year months quieter. Visibility varies considerably by site type, with open reef sites in Yap and Pohnpei generally offering better conditions than the sheltered, often sediment-rich wreck dives of Chuuk Lagoon.

Chuuk Lagoon is overwhelmingly wreck-focused, with vessels ranging from recreational depths to full technical territory at the San Francisco Maru. Yap is built around current-driven reef and drift diving, with sites like Miil Channel, Valley Of The Rays and Yap Corner rewarding divers comfortable in moving water. Pohnpei centres on reef and drift diving, including the notable cleaning stations at Manta Road. Kosrae has a smaller site count but adds further reef variety to the region.
The region caters to a range of skill levels, though intermediate and advanced divers have the widest choice of sites. Beginners are well served at sites such as Sunrise Reef in Yap and Stammtisch, both of which are rated beginner-level and accessible by boat. The deep wrecks of Chuuk Lagoon, including the Fumitsuki Maru, Unkai Maru and Hoki Maru, are reserved for intermediate or advanced divers, and the San Francisco Maru sits firmly in technical territory.
All of the top sites across Micronesia require boat access, and operators are available across each of the main sub-areas. In Yap, Manta Ray Bay Resort and Yap Divers is the most established presence.
