Somalia's sole recorded dive site, the Bajun Islands, sits in the Indian Ocean and offers a remote reef environment suited to intermediate divers. Depths run from shallow reef tops down to around thirty-five metres, and visibility at the site is reported at around thirty metres. Water temperatures are warm for most of the year, peaking in spring and dipping slightly during the mid-year monsoon period when upwelling pushes cooler, nutrient-rich water toward the surface. Shore entry is complicated by surf and shore break, so boat access is required. Encounters logged at the site include whale sharks, blacktip reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, green sea turtles, and an array of smaller reef species such as harlequin shrimp and hairy frogfish.
