Diving in French Guiana centres on the Iles du Salut archipelago, reached by boat from Kourou. The Atlantic coast suffers chronically poor visibility due to sediment discharge from the Amazon basin, but the offshore islands sit far enough out to offer meaningfully better conditions than the mainland shore. Our two sites, Île Royale and Île du Diable, both sit on shallow reefs accessible to beginners, with warm water year-round. Expect strong currents at Île du Diable and limited visibility at both sites; the reward is a quiet, rarely visited reef holding green sea turtles, West Indian manatees, nurse sharks, Atlantic goliath groupers, and Caribbean spiny lobsters.
