Iraq's diving is concentrated along its short northern Persian Gulf coastline and the Shatt al-Arab estuary, near the towns of Abū al-Kahṣīb and Al-Basra. The two sites in Fin's database, the Remela Wreck and Abu Khaseeb, sit in shallow water, reaching no deeper than fourteen metres, and both are rated suitable for beginners. Visibility is limited, typically around five metres, owing to sediment and nutrient runoff from the river system, so diving here rewards close-up observation rather than long-range scenery. Species recorded at these sites include green sea turtle, Indian lionfish, torpedo ray, conger eel, and common blacktip shark, reflecting the nutrient-rich character of the water.
