Diving in Algeria

Algeria's diving takes place along its Mediterranean coastline, with sites ranging from shallow reef sections suitable for beginners to deeper areas reaching considerable depths. Water temperatures stay fairly consistent year-round, sitting in the mid-teens for most months and rising only slightly in early summer. The one catalogued site near Algiers, Deca Plage, offers reef diving with both shore and boat access, though shore entries require care because of surf and shore break. Moderate currents and variable visibility are typical conditions to plan around. Marine life includes gorgonians, red coral, common octopus, European spiny lobster, and occasional rays.
