Lodestone Reef is an outer reef site off Townsville in the Coral Sea, accessible by boat. Its topography is notably varied, combining reef, wall, canyon, and pinnacle structures across a depth range that runs from shallow to well beyond recreational limits, with an average of around twenty metres. Currents can vary with tides and weather, and divers should be aware of conditions before descending. Water temperatures are warm for most of the year, cooling slightly in mid-winter. Recorded species include whitetip reef sharks, silvertip sharks, Napoleon wrasse, green sea turtles, and occasional common minke whales.
