Horn Island lies in the Torres Strait at the northern tip of Far North Queensland, where fringing coral reefs are accessible from shore or by boat. The Torres Strait is shaped by strong tidal currents that shift quickly and must be accounted for when planning a dive. Water temperatures stay warm throughout the year, at their highest in summer and only slightly lower mid-year. Recorded species include whitetip reef sharks, green sea turtles, tasselled wobbegong, bluespotted fantail rays, pharaoh cuttlefish, and hairy and painted frogfish.
