Palm Cove sits between Cairns and Port Douglas on the edge of the Coral Sea, giving divers access to both a shallow shore entry and the offshore reef at Double Island. The shore site at Palm Cove Beach is very shallow, with visibility typically around one metre, and suits snorkellers exploring seagrass beds. Double Island, reached by boat, drops to thirty metres with visibility ranging from five to thirty-five metres and draws a variety of reef species, including blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse, pygmy seahorse, and pharaoh cuttlefish.
