Green Island is a coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef, reachable by boat from Cairns, with reef beginning just off the beach and sloping to about fifteen metres. Divers and snorkellers can enter from the shore or by boat, exploring a mix of reef and seagrass habitats in generally sheltered, mild-current conditions. Visibility is variable, ranging from very limited to excellent depending on conditions. The reef hosts Queensland grouper, giant trevally, bluespotted fantail rays, nudibranchs, and several species of parrotfish and wrasse. Sites suit beginners, though conditions should be checked before entry.
