Briggs Reef is an outer reef site in the Coral Sea, accessed by boat from Cairns and lying well offshore. The reef runs from shallow coral structures down to around twenty-eight metres and is typically free of current, which makes it manageable for beginners despite the depth requiring careful buoyancy and air management. Visibility is generally good, often extending to thirty metres. The species list includes napoleon wrasse, whitetip reef shark, bluefaced angelfish, common coral trout, and a range of parrotfish and butterflyfish that reflect the broader Great Barrier Reef ecosystem.
