Merimbula sits on the temperate south coast of New South Wales and offers both shore and boat diving across reef, cave, and wreck environments. The three sites in our database, Merrimbula Wharf, Merimbula reef, and Bar Beach, span a depth range from very shallow to around twenty-two metres. Visibility varies considerably by site, from moderate at the wharf to a consistent twenty metres at Bar Beach. Recorded species include Pot-bellied Seahorse, Spotted Wobbegong, Fiddler Ray, Green Moray, nudibranchs, and Anglerfish. Water temperatures are warmest in late summer and drop noticeably through winter, favouring a thicker wetsuit in the cooler months.

Temperatures are warmest from late summer through early autumn and reach their coldest in mid-winter, when a seven-millimetre wetsuit or drysuit becomes practical. Bar Beach requires timing dives around slack water to manage variable currents between the reef, cave, and wreck sections.
