Snorkelling in Moray Firth

The Moray Firth sites on Fin's database are shallow, shore-entry spots on the east coast of Scotland near Portknockie and Macduff. Bow Fiddle Rock is a natural reef archway known locally as the Whale's Mou, suited to intermediate snorkellers and divers exploring coastal geology. Tarlair Swimming Pools is a historic tidal Art Deco pool site with shallow rocky shore and an arch called the Needle's Eye. Both sites are accessible from the shore and sit at very shallow depths. Species recorded include curled octopus, conger eel, lumpfish, catshark, dogfish, bobtail squid, gurnard, and sea slugs. Water is cold for much of the year, warmest in mid to late summer.
