Máncora sits on the tropical Pacific coast of northern Peru, where a warm current keeps water temperatures consistently around twenty-two degrees Celsius for most of the year, dipping slightly between August and November. The region offers one of the few tropical diving environments in Peru, with sites ranging from shallow pier dives at Muelle de Los Órganos to the deep steel structure of Plataforma MX-1, a former oil platform that descends to sixty metres and suits advanced divers. Reef sites such as Arrecifes de Vichayito and Punta Veleros hold coral gardens with green sea turtles, marble rays, whale sharks, spinetail devil rays, and nudibranchs. Between July and October, humpback whale song is audible underwater. Six operators are based in Los Órganos and Máncora, and most sites are reached by boat.
