Gippsland's two sites, Joiner's Channel and Beware Reef, sit in open Bass Strait waters and are suited exclusively to advanced divers. Beware Reef combines reef, wall, pinnacle, and wreck topography in a single exposed offshore site, while Joiner's Channel is a reef and canyon where the topography concentrates current. Both are boat-access only. The water is cool, at its warmest in late summer and dropping to around thirteen or fourteen degrees through winter and spring. Spotted wobbegong, port jackson shark, long-nosed fur seal, smooth ray, and a strong showing of nudibranchs make up the notable species.
