Bait Reef lies on the outer Great Barrier Reef in the Whitsundays and is reached by boat or liveaboard from the region. The topography is varied, covering coral gardens, walls, canyons, pinnacles, and small caves, with depths ranging from very shallow to well beyond recreational limits. The Chimney is the more technically demanding site, a narrow vertical passage that opens onto a wall and is suited to advanced divers comfortable with overhead environments and strong currents. Shallower sections of the main reef work for beginners. Species include Napoleon wrasse, giant trevally, Indian lionfish, harlequin tuskfish, and common coral trout.
