Wollongong sits on the Tasman Sea coast of New South Wales, where temperate ocean conditions shape diving that suits intermediate and experienced divers. Water temperatures drop to around eighteen or nineteen degrees in late winter and rise to the low twenties in summer, so a wetsuit is needed year-round. The site in our database, Pig Island, is a boat-only reef and wall dive reached several kilometres offshore, where a drop-off descends from moderate to deeper depths and visibility can range widely depending on conditions. Marine life recorded here includes giant cuttlefish, eastern blue groper, green moray, eagle ray, crested bullhead shark, and common Sydney octopus.
