Gerringong on the New South Wales south coast offers shore-entry diving and snorkelling at very shallow sites. Both Seven Mile Beach and Boat Harbour Rock Pool are suited to beginners, with depths rarely exceeding three metres. The water is temperate, warmest in late summer and at its coldest through mid-winter, so a wetsuit is essential for much of the year. Marine life includes eagle rays, common Sydney octopus, blue-throated wrasse, eastern rock blackfish, sea hares, and sea stars. Conditions can be affected by ocean swell, and both sites require care on entry and exit.
