The Lake Norman region is a freshwater diving area centred on a cluster of inland lakes, including Lake Norman itself, Lake Hickory, and Lake Murray. Sites range from a membership-run quarry with artificial structures and guide ropes to shallow rock reefs and wrecks on Lake James and Lake Murray. Depths across the region run from very shallow training zones down to around thirty metres, with seasonal surface temperatures swinging from near freezing in winter to warm summer conditions. Visibility varies considerably by site, from a few metres in the shallower lake margins to the mid-range at the quarry.
