Diving in Moscow Oblast Quarries

The Moscow Oblast Quarries region gathers six freshwater sites within reach of Moscow, ranging from natural lakes to purpose-developed quarries. Sites like Alternative and Fifth Element feature sunken objects including boats, cars, and submerged forest, while Lake Vad offers an artificial reef descending to significant depth. Depths across the region run from very shallow to forty-five metres, and the sites cater predominantly to beginner divers and those in training. Visibility is variable, typically a few metres in the shallower lakes but reaching up to thirty metres at deeper quarry sites. A thermocline is present at several sites, where deep water temperatures drop sharply.
