Plura is built around a single, world-class site: Pluragrotta, the deepest flooded cave in Northern Europe, reaching a maximum depth of over one hundred metres in a limestone and marble system. Visibility is the defining characteristic here, regularly ranging from thirty to fifty metres and touching close to one hundred metres in late winter before snowmelt drops it sharply in May. Water is cold year-round, from just above freezing in winter to a modest peak in August, so drysuits are non-negotiable. Full cave certification is required for the main system; the region also offers a World War Two Dornier aircraft wreck accessed by boat near Onøy, giving advanced divers a second, very different objective.
