Great Barrier Island sits in the Hauraki Gulf, and its two sites cover pinnacle, reef, and cave terrain in the outer gulf. East Pinnacles is an offshore boat dive suited to intermediate divers, while Stoney Bay is a shore-entry cave and reef site calm enough for beginners and snorkellers. Water temperatures follow a similar seasonal pattern to the wider Auckland region, warmest in late summer and coolest in late winter. The species list includes kingfish, green moray, smooth ray, and gorgonians. One operator serves the island.
