Tohoku stretches across both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific coast, and the eight sites in our database reflect that dual exposure, ranging from the muck-and-reef environment at Benten Island to the seagrass beds at Okirai Namiita Beach. Temperatures are cool in winter and reach the mid-twenties Celsius by late summer. Sites are predominantly suited to beginners and intermediate divers, with reef and artificial reef structures making up most of the recorded site types. Species include nudibranchs, gorgonians, red coral, squat lobsters, John Dory, and cleaner shrimp.
