Sumbawa is a large island in the Flores Sea between Lombok and Flores, and the four sites currently in our database are relatively shallow reef, wall, and drift dives. Depths across the sites are modest, and both beginners and intermediate divers are catered for. Conditions vary considerably: Pulau Satonda offers calm, clear snorkelling from shore, while Sea Wall and Panjang Reef involve strong currents and surge requiring careful planning. Species recorded include pygmy seahorses, blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, whale sharks, and green sea turtles. Water is warmest from April and from November through to the end of the year, and cooler in the mid-year months.

Water temperatures drop noticeably from July through September, so plan accordingly if diving in those months. The warmer and generally calmer conditions from April and again from November to December offer the most comfortable diving across the site range.
