Candidasa lies on the eastern coast of Bali facing the Lombok Strait, and its marine territory is part of the Karangasem Marine Protected Area established in the mid-two thousands. With eight sites in our database, the area offers one of the widest ranges of dive types in eastern Bali: walls, canyons, caves, drift dives, muck, pinnacles, and wrecks, across depths from the shallows down to forty metres. Sites such as Gili Biaha and Gili Tepekong suit advanced divers comfortable with strong and sometimes unpredictable currents, while Blue Lagoon and Pura Jepun offer gentler conditions for beginners. The species list includes green sea turtles, common blacktip sharks, eagle rays, seahorses, and a variety of nudibranchs. Water temperatures are warmest from November through to May and drop noticeably during the mid-year months when cooler upwellings push in from the Lombok Strait.

Temperatures are at their highest from late in the year through to early the following year, and this period also brings calmer seas. Between mid-year and early September, upwellings from the Lombok Strait can pull temperatures down considerably, which demands a thicker wetsuit and rewards divers with stronger pelagic activity. Currents across the area can be powerful and direction can change quickly, so many of the sites here are firmly in advanced territory.
