West Iceland's catalogued dive site, Birgisklettur, is a reef and cave system reached by boat from near Stykkishólmur on the north coast. Strong currents and surge define the experience, and the overhead environment inside the cave removes direct ascent routes, so the site is suited to intermediate divers who are comfortable managing both. Water temperatures are among the coldest in Iceland's database, dropping to around two degrees Celsius in late winter and reaching their peak only in late summer. The species list reflects a typical cold North Atlantic community: Atlantic wolffish, sculpin, brittle stars, feather stars, king crab, and harbour seals. Two operators, based in Ísafjörður and Ólafsvik, cover the area.
