Þingvellir is a freshwater diving area inside a national park, built around two lava fissures in and beside Lake Þingvallavatn. Silfra is the standout site: glacial meltwater filtered through lava for decades produces visibility reaching one hundred metres, and the fissure itself runs between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Davíðsgjá is a long, narrow fissure with a shore entry that requires a swim of several hundred metres to reach the main feature. Both sites are cold throughout the year, with temperatures between the low single figures in winter and the low teens in the warmest summer months. All sites are shore-entry and rated for intermediate divers.
