The caldera offers a calm, sheltered freshwater environment with depths in the shallower range and visibility reaching fifteen metres, making it suitable for beginners working on buoyancy and trim. Shore entry is straightforward. Water temperature follows a seasonal pattern similar to other Icelandic freshwater sites, coldest in winter and rising to the low teens in summer.
