Vestmannaeyjar is a volcanic archipelago in the North Atlantic, and its sole catalogued site, Heimaey, captures the character of the whole group: reefs, walls, caves, and dense kelp forests within a single dive. Water temperatures hold cold year-round, warming only slightly in late summer, so a drysuit and the experience to use one are non-negotiable. Visibility runs moderate, typically between five and fifteen metres, shaped by the nutrient-rich Atlantic. The species list is unusually varied for such a small database entry, spanning fin whales and orca in open water through to bobtail squid, lumpfish, and king crab on the reef itself. Two local operators run trips from Vestmannaeyjar, and the site suits intermediate divers comfortable with cold water.
