Sundhäuser See is a freshwater diving region built around flooded quarries, gravel pits and former opencast mines, almost all accessed directly from shore. Artificial reefs dominate the site mix, giving structure to otherwise open water, and several sites also feature wrecks and wall sections. The wildlife is characteristically freshwater: Common Carp, Common Perch, Pike Perch, Catfish and Sturgeon are observed across the region, alongside Freshwater Sponge. The vast majority of sites suit beginners, though Möwensee reaches considerable depth for those progressing further.

The region has strong observation records for Common Carp, Common Perch, Pike Perch, Catfish and Sturgeon across many of its sites. Pike and Carp are also commonly encountered, and patient divers may spot Wels Catfish, Rudd, Tench or Freshwater Crayfish. Freshwater Sponge provides an unusual non-fish highlight on many dives.
The great majority of sites in Sundhäuser See are rated for beginners, with shallow to moderate depths and shore entry that removes the need for boat handling. Sites such as Tauchsee Hänigsen, Beinhorner Kiessee and Nordstrand Erfurt are particularly gentle introductions. Several local dive schools, including Tauchschule Tauchteam WasserFest and Tauchsportcenter Wassermann, operate in the region.
Most sites are former quarries or gravel pits fitted with artificial reef structures, but there is meaningful variety beneath that. Süplinger Canyon combines a wreck, a wall and an artificial reef in a former quarry setting. Steinbruchsee Pretzien connects three quarry basins with walls and reef. Klingesee offers seagrass beds alongside reef, while Möwensee and Moewensee drop to considerable depth for those seeking more challenge.
Every top site in the region uses shore entry, so no boat charter is required. Car parking and basic facilities are available at many of the former quarry lakes. This makes the region convenient for self-guided diving as well as supervised courses, and several operators such as Dive shop Magdeburg GmbH and Tauchcenter Magdeburg are well placed to support visiting divers.
