Lake Annecy offers a freshwater diving and snorkelling experience unlike anything on the coast. The lake divides neatly between Talloires and Annecy-le-Vieux, between them covering walls, drop-offs, canyons, artificial reefs, wrecks, and seagrass beds. Pike and Common Perch are the species you will encounter most reliably, alongside Freshwater Blenny, Tench, and the occasional Catfish. Shore entry is the norm, and the skill-level spread runs from sheltered beginner sites to serious deep walls.

Across Lake Annecy's dive sites, June, July, August and September are most often reported as the best months to visit.
Pike and Common Perch are the most frequently observed species across the lake's sites. Common Carp, Freshwater Blenny, Tench, and Catfish also appear regularly. Less common encounters include Burbot, Signal Crayfish, and Sun Perch, all of which have been recorded by divers in the lake.
A good number of the lake's dive sites are rated beginner level, including Evolution 2, Cap des Séselets, Charpignat, and Tombant de Chatillon. Most of these are accessible directly from the shore, removing the need for boat handling. Advanced sites such as Pierre à Bise and The France Wreck are also present for more experienced visitors.
Talloires holds the larger share of sites and includes stand-out locations such as Evolution 2 and Beaurivage, which features a seagrass bottom. Annecy-le-Vieux offers more topographic variety in a smaller cluster, covering walls, drop-offs, artificial reefs, and the shallow reef at Cap des Séselets that suits both divers and snorkellers. Both areas rely primarily on shore entry.
Shore entry is the default at Lake Annecy, covering the majority of dive and snorkel sites across both sub-areas. Boat access is required for a small number of sites, including The France Wreck and Jet d'Eau. Operators such as Aquadif, Aquapassion, and Scuba Wind are among those active in the area and can assist with boat-based excursions where needed.
