Tampere's diving takes place across seven freshwater lake sites, with depths ranging from three to twenty-seven metres and a mix of reef, wreck, artificial reef, and seagrass habitats. All sites are shore-entry, and skill levels run from beginner through to advanced. Sites such as Riihiniemi in Lake Kaukajärvi offer wreck and artificial reef structures at modest depths, while deeper sites such as Isosaaren yhteyslaituri require advanced certification. Visibility across the area is variable, from one metre at the low end to fifteen metres in better conditions. Cold water is the defining factor in dive planning, and a drysuit is necessary at every site regardless of season.
