The Thousand Islands region sits along the St. Lawrence River between Kingston and Gananoque in Ontario, where the river drains the Great Lakes Basin. Diving here covers a mix of freshwater river and lake environments with wrecks, walls, reefs, and artificial reefs across skill levels from beginner to advanced. Sites include the Ash Island Barge, the advanced wreck at Kinghorn, shore entries at Landon Bay and Ivy Lea Campground Beach, and the snorkelling-friendly Joel Stone Beach in Gananoque. Water temperature peaks in late summer and falls near freezing in winter, making late summer the most comfortable period. Currents are a factor at several sites and demand careful planning, particularly for deeper or boat-access wrecks.
