The Easter Group is the northernmost cluster of the Abrolhos Islands in the Indian Ocean, reached only by boat. It contains some of the most demanding diving in the Abrolhos, with Hells Gates rated expert-only due to extreme tidal currents, unpredictable down-currents, and whirlpools in its narrow canyon passage. Anemone Lump is a pinnacle rising from forty metres with walls and overhangs suited to intermediate divers, while the Zeewijk Shipwreck, a Dutch East India Company vessel lost in seventeen twenty-seven, lies scattered across a shallow reef but is classed advanced due to heavy Indian Ocean swell and strong currents. Water temperatures are stable in the low to mid-twenties year-round. Recorded species include grey nurse sharks, great white sharks, mako sharks, whale sharks, baldchin groper, and long-nosed fur seals.
