Cod Hole sits on the outer Ribbon Reefs near Lizard Island and is reached exclusively by boat or liveaboard. The two sites in our database are The Cod Hole itself, a sloping reef wall descending from shallow to forty metres with hard corals, sea fans, and bommies, and Snake Pit, a reef and drop-off suited to intermediate divers. Currents run moderate to strong at both sites and often allow drift diving. Visibility typically spans fifteen to forty metres at The Cod Hole. Species recorded across the area include Napoleon wrasse, whitetip and blacktip reef sharks, green sea turtles, giant moray, bluespotted fantail rays, and nudibranchs.
