The Gosford area's dive sites sit within the Pittwater estuary, making them estuarine rather than open-ocean environments. Clareville Beach and The Basin are both shallow, sheltered shore dives suited to beginners, with seagrass beds and reef patches across a modest depth range. Despite the sheltered setting, species diversity is solid: giant and mourning cuttlefish, spotted wobbegong, fiddler rays, blind sharks, common stingray, common Sydney octopus, and green sea turtles are all recorded. Boat traffic is a consideration at both sites due to nearby moorings and recreational use of the waterway.
