Gullmarsfjorden is Sweden's only true threshold fjord, with a shallow mouth that restricts water exchange and creates conditions unlike anywhere else in Swedish waters. Our sites include shore-accessible walls and reefs at Ormestad, Skar, and Hällebäck, a seagrass and reef site at Lysekil Havn, and the mixed reef-wall-muck environments at Jordfall and Fossen Camping. Depths across the database run from a few metres to over fifty, covering the full range from beginner to more experienced intermediate dives. The fjord's restricted circulation supports species more commonly found at much greater depths in the open sea, including nudibranchs, conger eel, king crab, and bobtail squid.

The fjord stays cold year-round, with winter temperatures near freezing and summer surface temperatures reaching around fifteen to sixteen degrees Celsius at their warmest in August and September. Visibility typically ranges from low to moderate and can be affected by conditions within the fjord's basin. A drysuit is recommended for comfort across most of the diving season.
