Mabibi lies within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park on KwaZulu-Natal's northern coast, where the Indian Ocean sustains some of South Africa's southernmost tropical coral reefs. Water temperatures are warm throughout the year, peaking around twenty-eight degrees in late summer and rarely dropping below twenty-three degrees in winter, making a three-millimetre wetsuit suitable year-round for most divers. Sites range from shallow inshore reef pools and the ancient Thonga fish traps at Kosi Bay Mouth to offshore boat dives with visibility that can reach twenty-five metres. Species recorded here include whale sharks, Napoleon wrasse, harlequin shrimp, hairy frogfish, green sea turtles, and bluefin trevally. Boat launches are tractor-assisted and tide-dependent due to surf conditions.
