Central and Eastern Slovakia has two contrasting dive sites. Palcmanská Maša, near Dobšiná, is a freshwater reservoir described as one of the coldest in the country, with depths reaching into the mid-forties and conditions suited to intermediate divers who need to account for altitude when planning decompression. The Jozef Tunnel, near Zámutov, is a flooded section of the historic Slovak Opal Mines: a confined overhead environment with depths extending to seventy metres, water temperatures of four to five degrees Celsius, and visibility that can fluctuate between moderate and good. The tunnel is strictly for advanced divers with overhead and technical experience. Both sites are shore entry only.
