Chuuk Lagoon is defined entirely by its wrecks. Every site here is a sunken vessel, ranging from shallow aircraft resting on sandy bottoms to deep cargo ships that demand technical capability. The wreck fleet functions as artificial reef, now colonised by Green Sea Turtle, Grey Reef Shark, Whitetip Reef Shark, Napoleon Wrasse and a consistent cast of reef fish including Moorish Idol, Batfish and Rabbitfish. Skill requirements span beginner to technical, so the lagoon rewards divers at most certification levels. All sites are boat-access only. The wrecks act as artificial reefs supporting a wide range of species. Green Sea Turtle and Grey Reef Shark are observed very commonly across the site fleet, and Napoleon Wrasse is a regular presence. Whitetip Reef Shark, Giant Moray, Leaf Scorpionfish, Spotted Eagle Ray and, occasionally, Whale Shark have all been recorded. Reef fish such as Moorish Idol, Batfish, Rabbitfish and Pink Skunk Clownfish are found across virtually every site.
The lagoon caters to a range of experience levels, though the majority of wrecks sit at intermediate depth. The Betty Bomber is the clearest option for beginners, resting at a shallow depth with mild currents. Intermediate divers have the widest choice, including well-known wrecks such as the Fujikawa Maru, Heian Maru and Yamagiri Maru. The San Francisco Maru and several deeper hulls are reserved for technical divers.
Every site in Chuuk Lagoon is reached by boat. There are no shore-entry wrecks listed here.
