Pohnpei's diving is defined by passes, walls and drift. The reef surrounding the main island funnels tidal currents through channels such as Manta Road, Phelong Pass and Pehleng Corner, creating the conditions that draw Grey Reef Shark and Spotted Eagle Ray in numbers. Ant Atoll extends the range with open-water drop-offs and the dedicated sites of Tauenai Pass and the Northwest Wall. Most sites are boat-access only and skew intermediate to advanced, though Coral Gardens offers a gentler entry point. Nudibranchs, including the Chromodoris Nudibranch and Nembrotha Nudibranch, appear consistently across the site mix alongside Green Sea Turtle and Napoleon Wrasse.

Most sites in Pohnpei are rated intermediate or advanced, largely because drift diving in tidal passes demands buoyancy control and comfort in moving water. Coral Gardens is the clearest exception, rated for beginners and offering a shallower reef-and-wall profile. Divers new to drift conditions would do well to start there before moving on to the passes.
All sites in Pohnpei are boat-access only, with no shore-entry diving recorded in the data. Ant Atoll and its associated sites require a longer journey from the main island.
The main island's sites, such as Manta Road, Phelong Pass and Dauhauk Bridge, are tidal pass and channel dives where currents concentrate marine life and shark encounters. Ant Atoll and its Northwest Wall shift the character toward open-water walls and drop-offs, with a more exposed feel and similar depth range. Tauenai Pass, on the edge of the atoll, combines both styles with a drift profile over a drop-off.
