Banc du Geyser is a remote, mostly submerged atoll in the Mozambique Channel, far from Mayotte's main island and reachable only by boat with calm weather and careful tide planning. The single site drops from a shallow reef top at ten metres to beyond a hundred metres, and strong currents make timing critical. Water temperature runs cooler than Mayotte's lagoon, sitting in the mid-twenties for much of the year and dipping lower in the austral winter. Whale sharks, blacktip reef sharks, grey nurse sharks, napoleon wrasse, and ghost pipefish are among the species recorded, reflecting the atoll's position as an isolated open-water reef.
