N'Gouja sits at the southern tip of Mayotte, where the Indian Ocean lagoon meets a shoreline of golden sand. The sites here range from shallow seagrass beds and reef flats accessible directly from the beach to a deep wall at Abalone that drops to sixty metres and is suited to intermediate divers comfortable with strong currents. Beginners and snorkellers do well at N'Gouja Beach itself and Tahiti Plage, where calm, warm water and depths of just a few metres make for relaxed exploration. The area is a significant nesting and feeding ground for both green and hawksbill sea turtles, which are regularly seen grazing on the seagrass.
