Tun Sakaran Marine Park is defined by an exceptional mix of muck and reef diving, spread across sites around Mataking Island and the broader park. Macro life dominates: the Blue-ringed Octopus, Mandarinfish, Ornate Ghostpipefish and Peacock Mantis Shrimp are signature finds. Sites range from shallow beginner reefs to deep walls and drift dives, with Hawksbill Highway pushing into advanced territory. Water temperature stays consistently warm throughout the year, with a very slight dip in the cooler months around January and February. Conditions are at their most favourable from late March through to November, when visibility tends to improve and diving activity peaks. The shoulder months of November and December still offer reasonable conditions, though some sites can be exposed to stronger currents without warning.

A good portion of the sites are rated beginner level, including Macro Mania, Sibuan Island, Mandarin Valley and Corner Reef. These offer shallower reef and muck environments with generally mild currents. Intermediate and advanced sites such as Hawksbill Highway are also available for those with more experience, so the park caters to a wide range of skill levels.
The majority of sites are boat access only, and there are many local operators offering guided trips, including Scuba Junkie, Bigfin Divers, Sipadan Scuba and Scuba Gen Dive Center among others. A small number of sites, such as Mandarin Valley and Left Shoulder, can also be reached from shore or offer both entry options.
The park covers a broad range of site types, from shallow muck slopes and artificial reef structures to walls and drift dives. Reef and muck combinations are especially common, making the area well suited to photographers and macro enthusiasts. Sites like AsPark Sebangkat and Mandarin Bay offer both reef and muck in a single dive, while Hawksbill Highway adds a wall and drift dimension for more experienced divers.
