Diving in Hatsushima

Hatsushima covers a cluster of sites in Sagami Bay on the Izu Peninsula, including Hatsushima Island itself, which is the only inhabited island in Shizuoka Prefecture and reached by a short ferry from Atami. All sites in the database are shore entries and are rated for beginners, with terrain that mixes natural reef, artificial reef, and cave structures across shallow to moderate depths. Water temperatures are cooler than further south, sitting in the mid-to-upper teens in winter and rising to the mid-twenties in late summer, so a full wetsuit is advisable for much of the year. Species recorded here include zebra bullhead shark, chromodoris nudibranchs, bobtail squid, conger eel, and loggerhead sea turtle.
