Biak sits in Cenderawasih Bay off the northern coast of Papua, and its seven recorded sites span reef walls, caves, drift dives, pinnacles, and wrecks. The water stays warm year-round, rarely dropping below twenty-nine degrees, so a light wetsuit is sufficient in any month. The most talked-about draw is the Catalina wreck, a US seaplane now encrusted with coral and attended by fish, but macro hunters will find equal reward: the site list includes painted frogfish, robust ghost pipefish, pygmy seahorses, and seamoths. June to August is considered the best period for diving. Most sites are boat-access only, and the nearest operators are based in Insrom.

Water temperature holds at or near thirty degrees for most of the year, dipping only slightly in February, so thermal comfort is rarely a concern for divers. June to August is the recommended season, likely reflecting calmer seas and better visibility, which can reach up to thirty metres at its best. Some sites, such as Rurbas Point, carry medium to strong currents and are better suited to experienced divers.
