Gorontalo faces Tomini Bay on the northern arm of Sulawesi and is known for steep walls, vertical drop-offs, and some of the most variable visibility in Indonesian diving, ranging from modest to excellent depending on conditions. The seven sites in our database cover muck, reef, wall, drift, pinnacle, and drop-off terrain, and the area supports divers from beginners to advanced. Species recorded here include pygmy seahorses, robust ghost pipefish, whale sharks, Napoleon wrasse, and both whitetip and blacktip reef sharks. Gorontalo is also associated with the distinctive large barrel sponges that characterise its deeper walls. Water stays warm across all months, slightly warmer from mid-year onward.
