Morotai sits in the North Maluku Islands of Eastern Indonesia, within the Maluku Sea, and its waters fall under Indonesian marine conservation zone (KKP) protections. The three sites in our database, Air Terjun, Blacktip Point, and Sangowo Reef, are all reef or drop-off dives reached by boat from Daruba, the main access hub. Temperatures stay warm throughout the year, rarely straying from the high twenties to thirty degrees Celsius. The reef environments support a wide range of species, including scalloped hammerheads, silvertip sharks, green sea turtles, and less conspicuous finds such as halimeda ghost pipefish and painted frogfish. Conditions are calmest and clearest during the dry season, broadly from March through to September.
